Jean Stewart
Born and raised in East Calder, Jean has been teaching our Tuesday & Wednesday afternoon 2pm-4pm painting classes.
Jean studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art from 1975-80 receiving a Post Graduate and The Andrew Grant Travel Award (1980).
After graduating she became involved with Community Arts and taught in various community Centres and colleges in Edinburgh. In the late 80s she taught art in an International School in the United Arab Emirates. On returning to Scotland she worked for the next ten years as a graphic artist till my daughter was born. More recently Jean returned to painting and began teaching in various centres and colleges in both Edinburgh and the Lothians.
At present Jean teaches art classes in community groups as well as workshops and demos for various clubs. A member of the Society of Scottish Artists, her work has been exhibited in a number of exhibitions.
“I am fascinated by light and shade and try and capture this in my landscape paintings. Most compositions start with sketches and photographs while out walking with the dog. Even though we walk the same tracks most days there is always something different to record. I enjoy drawing and building various layers of rich colour and texture and I never tire of our wonderful diverse landscape or our ever changing weather.”
Jim Tripney
Jim is a local West Lothian artist who has been teaching our Wednesday morning 10am-12pm painting class.
Jim gained his art degree from Gray’s School of art as a mature student with his speciality being oil painting. He has a great love of drawing and painting.
He currently teaches a number of art groups including both adult and children’s classes.
He organised and produced the community project ‘Giraffe in the City‘ in conjunction with Edinburgh Zoo.
Regina Nurney
Regina is a mixed media artist who has been teaching our Wednesday evening 6.30pm-8.30pm painting class.
Working in the areas of costume design, literature illustration, fashion design & illustration, metal manipulation, printing, needlecrafts, textiles, and mixed media artwork. You can see examples of her work here.
Interestingly she began her artistic career working solely in the areas of charcoal and watercolour painting. Progressing to Photoshop, Illustrator, sound & video manipulation, textile manipulation, and different kinds of artistic mediums such as inks and acrylics. Her artworks focus predominantly on nature and landscapes, particularly trees, and sunsets & sunrises.
Regina has illustrated children’s stories, cards, crafts. The children’s story “the Ladybird who found her spots” was personally written for her young children, using multiple mediums including watercolour, paper washed with ink colours, and unusual inclusion such as sand and henna glitter.
Regina owns Passion Creates, an arts and crafts company that facilitates sessions on behalf of groups and organisations for all ages and abilities. Her work has been exhibited in a number of exhibitions.
